| Answers to Common Questions about oilBay.com: | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|
||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| 1: How does the oilBay.com web site site work? | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| The oilBay.com web site is an advanced document search engine. The oilBay.com web site is a combination of numerous on-line databases and many gigabytes of scanned document images. Only a minimal amount of search criteria is required to locate a document. This criteria may be as general as a county selection or as specific as a document number. Submitting this criteria will display the results for a record match found in the oilBay.com on-line database. Each record in the on-line database will nornally have an associated scanned image of the original OCC document which may be downloaded or emailed directly to your home or office computer. These documents are viewable and printable on most computer systems. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| 2: What does "Database Record Detail" mean? | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| The "Database Record Detail" refers to the hand recorded information about each OCC document on the oilbay.com servers. This "Database Record Detail" pertaining to a document will allow you to determine which document you would like to download. In some cases the "Database Record Detail" for an OCC document has been recorded in our database, but the scanned document is not available for immediate download. These documents may be ordered at your request. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| 3: What is a TIF file? | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Files with the .TIF or .TIFF extension are stored in a "Tagged Image File Format". This is similar to the format in which electronic fax files are stored. This file format has one of the highest rates of compression available for scanned document images stored in black and white. This format also allows multiple scanned document pages to be stored within a single file. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| 4: What is a PDF file? | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Files with the .PDF extension may be read with the Adobe Acrobat Reader software. This file format allows multiple scanned document pages to be stored within a single file. This file format does not have a high compression ratio, but many computer users prefer this format, to that of the TIF images. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| 5: How do I download the document I need? | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| If a document is available for download, there will be a hyperlink labeled "ADD" within the database record detail. By clicking this hyperlink, the document's information is added to the oilBay.com "Download Cart" system. Click the "View Download Cart" button to access the scanned document. The document may be downloaded or emailed in either TIF or PDF format. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| 6: Why does it take longer to download a PDF? | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| This file format does not have a high compression ratio. This results in a file which is larger in size than the TIF file format and thus results in a longer download time. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| 7: I downloaded a document.... Where did it go? | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| It is very easy to misplace a file
during the download process. To rectify this problem you may follow the instructions
below. 1. For each file to be downloaded from the "Download Cart" web page, place your mouse cursor over the appropriate download hyperlink, i.e.; "Download PDF", and click the right button on your mouse. A small menu will appear. 2. For Internet Explorer users click the "Save Target as..." menu item. 2a. For Netscape users click the "Save Link as... " menu item. 3. Find the location on your system where you would like to save and store the downloaded image file. 4. Name the file to be saved appropriately, with a name
that is fitting for the file. The filename box may already be filled with an (*.pdf
or download.asp) filename. This filename must be renamed to something appropriate and
include the correct file extension for particular file type. |

| 8: How do I know if I have been billed for a downloaded document? | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| The oilBay.com web site generates an email each time a transaction takes place on the system. You should receive the email (your virtual receipt) shortly after making an on-line purchase. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| 9: I filled out the registration. Why can't I get to the Database Detail? | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| After registering on-line, it may be necessary to contact our customer service section to have your account reactivated. Activating the account will allow you to access "Database Record Details" and download document images. Accounts normally are not deactivated, except in cases of system abuse or cases of fraudulent activity. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| 10: Why can't I print out a long Well Log on my computer? | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Without specialized software it may be difficult to print a continuous Well Log (exceeding 13 ft). oilBay.com can print these Well Logs for you and have them mailed next-day. Consult the oilBay.com Price List for current pricing on "Printed Well Logs". | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| 11: Can I view an OCC document first, without downloading it? | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| This has been one of our "most asked" questions. To make a long explanation short .... In order to "View" a scanned OCC document, the image file must be "Downloaded" to your computer. Viewing and Downloading is "one in the same". | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
